The song has already been called an “Anthem to the North” by Minneapolis country music station K102. Rocket Club also released this week a music video of the song directed by Twin Cities filmmaker, Joe Brandmeier, which showcases the band hitting the road and heading up north interspersed with vintage home movies that could have come from anyone’s personal collection. The music video can be seen on YouTube and at the www.rocketclub.info. “We are incredibly excited about North Country as our newest single,” said Don Smithmier, Rocket Club vocalist. “As a Minnesota band, we realized there are a lot of songs that pay tribute to the southern states -- Georgia, Louisiana, Tennessee and Mississippi -- but none that are dedicated to the northern part of the country.This is a song that captures the universal love for heading ‘up north’ to be with family and friends.” Rocket Club will kick-off a busy summer lineup including a performance August 6th at We Fest in Detroit Lakes, where they will join other national acts including Sugarland, Rascal Flatts and Brad Paisley.In addition, Rocket Club has shows lined-up throughout the summer at various venues and events in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Ohio. An unknown songwriter once wrote, "nothing lasts, but nothing's changed."(any guesses?)With this lyric in mind, we announce a new chapter in Rocket Club; one without our great friend Matt Kirkwold.As Matt opens his own new chapter -- one that will begin with an upcoming marriage -- he will be stepping away from performing life to focus on his new marriage. Matt has been way more than a band mate since Rocket Club began in 2008. He is co-founder, co-creator, and co-conspirator in every sense. He has played a key role in defining the sound of Rocket Club and he has blown away thousands of fans (and the rest of the band) with his brilliant guitar playing and vocals along the way.Matt is our brother and friend and we will miss him greatly. Matthew, we're just glad we shared the road. Congratulations! As Matt steps away, we are very fortunate to welcome Luke Kramer in his place.It would be hard to find someone in the Twin Cities or Upper Midwest that has NOT heard Luke play guitar. Over 17 years with GB Leighton, Luke has literally played thousands of shows and lit up every one of them with his playing and singing.
