It's Interesting what you find....

I was just searching google for what hits Room For Gray brings up and it is always refreshing to find things about this band I hadn't seen before. Below is the link to the Bad Girls Club episode 4 soundtrack and if you scroll down you will see they featured "Make A Play," last February. I was aware they were using it but just had never come across any solid site that linked RFG to it. So ta da.....here it ishttp://features.oxygen.com/outloud/blog/entertainment/bgc-6-soundtrack-episode-4Another interesting tid bit is our relation to sex offenders and is there "room for gray" see below. I was thinking maybe we should trademark Room For Gray so we get money everytime someone mentions it. Especially when referring to sex offenders.http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2013824349_sexregister02m.htmlAnd occasionally finding videos from RFG fans who come out to our shows and post them on youtube and just discovering them a few years later.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5mvhlA45E28

Another Day

Well kids. I always want to update this and I try to think of exciting news but I have to be honest, not a ton of exciting news happening right now. The great news is we are as busy as ever with live shows. We made it a goal a few years ago to try and play as much as possible and I have to say we have done a really good job at staying busy. We have been averaging 2 shows a week for over 2 years which in the scale of things is a pretty big accomplishment for us. We are always meeting new faces when we are out but we are starting to miss our tried and true fans we haven't seen a ton of lately. Kris has been playing some more of our acoustic shows with his Cajon which is a box he sits on and beats the hell out of. If you haven't seen one of these shows I suggest you make it out soon. The sounds and beats that Kris comes up with on this box are pretty amazing. Hope to see you soon,James

Videos

Hey all,I just added a bunch of new videos to Room For Gray's YouTube channel. Keep in mind the audio is coming from a video recorder but still some new video to keep you entertained.

The Kardashians, Kourtney & Kim Take New York, Real World/Challenges

Some amazing news just in! We just heard that Room For Gray's songs from "The Next Step," are going to be featured in "Keeping Up With The Kardashians," "Kourtney & Kim Take New York," and "The Real World / Challenges." I can't tell you how excited that makes us to get some more national recogition. With any luck next week Warner Bros. records will call us and offer us a 4 album deal. A guy can hope can't he? Nonetheless we are thrilled and seeking more opportunities to spread the music of Room For Gray. Thanks for your support!RFG

MTV Bad Girls Club

Just got off the phone with the company that places music on MTV's Bad Girls Club and they featured "Make A Play," on Episode #64 back on February 7th, 2011. It's always nice to hear news that Room For Gray is getting some national attention. I wish it was the guys over at Warner Bros. records but any exposure it good exposure. Our summer calendar as I said in my last post is getting busier every week which is fantastic and we are getting back in the habit of doing full band shows again. You know over the years we had so many bass players come in and out of this band that I had always wondered if it would just be easier if we were just a 3 piece band and so far it turns out that it is. I have to admit I was very nervous that I could fill the void of bass but with some hard work I am getting the hang of this instrument. One less person I need to worry about not showing up for practiceand even more, one more person I don't need to worry about quitting. This is for sure one of the hardest dreams to keep moving forward every day but as long as I still have the fuel inside of me I am going to keep pushing ahead. One more tidbit of news. We are adding another date to our Captains Getaway in July. We are now playing July 5-7. So Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday. We had a blast there last year and can't wait to get back down there again.

Ahhh...

Well it did happen...we finally had a warm day believe it or not. It didn't last for more than 2 days but it did happen. Lots going on this summer. We have a really busy schedule and look forward to seeing you all to at least 15 shows...or 1 or 2 would be great as well. Tomorrow night we are playing at Luckys 13 in Bloomington with Kris playing with us as an acoustic trio. Kris bought a Cajon, which is basically a wooden box that makes sounds like a full drum kit so I am excited to hear what he can do with it. He just bought it today so he has a whole 2 hours to practice on it before the show tomorrow so it should be interesting nonetheless. We have some more full band shows this summer that we are looking forward to as well. Our turnout at The Maxx last month was fantastic and I want to give a shout out to all of our wonderful fans who made it such a great show. We also have a outdoor show, assuming we actually get a summer, at the new Barlow Event Center in Rochester on July 15th. Should be a really cool show. We don't get to do a ton of outdoor shows besides our acoustic duo patio shows we do at Mad Jacks which starts in June. Last summer was such a blast there so I can't wait to get back to playing there again.I know I suck at updating the news section so I am going to promise from this day forward that I will most likely continue to suck at it.My big hope for this summer though is to get back to writing. I haven't written anything since last summer for my wedding and I am starting to wonder if I can still do it. I will say though with this time away from writing and all of the songs and techniques I have learned over the last few years, should make for some intersting new material. I will keep you guys updated when I start getting back into writing mode.Anywho, hope everyone is enjoying there spring and can't wait to see you guys soon!

Almost...

Spring is coming so soon I can taste it and what a better way to celebrate than coming out and enjoying a beer and watching the full band performance with GB Leighton and the new Doghouse Bar & Grill (formerly The Rock) in Maplewood. Next Friday night we start at 9:30-10:30 and it should be a rocking set. We have a few suprise electric versions of some songs I don't think a lot of bands do. I will give you a hint...Lady Gaga...ok that was more than a hint but I think we do the song pretty well. We start it out with another song you should recognize.. I will give you another hing...Ozzy Ozbourne...Crazy Train. We mesh the two songs together and it sounds pretty cool. I had to give you the answer because the few people we have played it for never even noticed that we were playing Ozzy along with the Gaga. Should be a great show.We also got a few more dates at Captains Getaway this summer which we are thrilled about. It is definetely one of our favorite places to play. We are playing the week of the 4th of July so it will be standing room only which we can't wait for.We also have another full band show where we will be playing all night (9:30-1:30) on Friday, April 1st at the Maxx in Ham Lake so if you are trying to plan out your spring then you know where to be.See you soon,James, David, Kris

Maui

Well whoever said that being in Maui the first week in January would suck sure was a liar. It was fantastic. 80 degrees and sun everyday does get a little boring and seeing all of the lush tropical wasteland in all its glory can get on your nerves but I made it. What an amazing honeymoon. Laying on the beach and drinking champagne was rough. I went and saw the worlds largest dormant volcano haleakala which was pretty amazing. We heard that seeing the sun rise would be even more amazing but that would require us getting up at 3:30 in the morning which would be the most amazing feat. We did the road to Hana another thing not to miss in Maui and we also went whale watching. If you are ever in Maui and you get a chance to watch whales...turn on the discovery channel and watch it from there. All in all it was a great honeymoon and I can't wait to go there again.Sorry for those of you who may or may not tried to come out to our Saturday night debut at the Village Inn in St Anthony. Apparently the Green Bay Packers playoff game was the highlight of the evening instead of us because this is Wisconsin that we live in and we all care about Green Bay. Sorry we didn't get a chance to play but I am sure you will see us at another show soon.James

Lookin' good

Hey as some of you have noticed some updated pictures on our main page. I bet some of you are thinking...hey that looks just like the 3 original members that started this band back in 2002 and you would be correct my friend. Yes that is right. The original RFG lineup is back in full swing coming to a country near you.We had our first show together as a 3 piece on the night before Thanksgiving down in Austin and can I ask a question? Yes of course you can James...why does it always rain, sleet, snow, storm, hurricane on everyday that we have a full band show? I think that is a legitimate question. I should change that though to, why does the weather suck so bad when we have to drive hours away? In almost 9 years of playing now I can only remember a handful of shows where the weather was good when we were on the road. Bad weather usually keeps people from coming out which is what happened in Austin. We did the best we could to entertain the 15 people there but it wasa long night to say the least. I do want to thank Jeff, the owner of Lefty's, for believing in us all of the time and having us down there though.Other news...lets see...my home improvement project is coming right along. There is now cement block underneath my sunroom and the walls are framed up in there as well. Along with 90% of the electrical work being done. And check this....we added lights in our ceilingto our living room. I know all of you out there are going...wow...how exciting. Me too! One thing I still can't figure out is why when people are building houses would they not put lights in there living room...oh...and all of the bedrooms too. So having lamps in every room in the house is the only option and they give off so much light. Not! I am hoping to have lights added to my bedrooms as well here shortly.Other than that, have a relaxing show tonight down at Somerby Golf Club in Byronif anyone is interested in making their way out. We can enjoy sniffing some brandy and going outside to freeze and smoke a cigar together.James

Winter Sucks!

Only in Minnesota can it be 62 degrees one week and the next week 8 inches of snow and a few days later freezing rain. We have been staying very busy with acoustic shows and are pretty excited for our first full band show coming up here this Wednesday at Lefty's in Austin. We know this is the busiest bar day of the year so we are pretty excited to help people celebrate by getting hammered and dancing to some RFG renditions of some cool cover songs along with some great original music. We had some new postcards printed out this past week that turned out fantastic from the guys over at InGroupEntertainment.com. On the front is a picture of us and where are CD's are available and on the back we have a huge list of cover songs we do. What we are going after with these is to help people shout out songs that we know at our acoustic shows. Last night was our first night using them and it went great down at Lucky's 13 in Bloomington. The funny thing is how many songs people kept shouting out that we had only played once before or hadn't played for 5 years but we got through them anyway. It was a good time. It is always challenging to try and pull songs off the cuff and see if you can fake your way through something you may have never played before. Sometimes it turns out like gold and then sometimes you feel like a jackass in the middle of it because you realize.....hey idiot....what the hell are youdoing ruining this song. Some exciting news around my homestead here. I have a sunroom that I am turning into a bedroom/master bath. It was a great sunroom but you couldn't heat it in the winter and it just seemed like a wast of space to me so we started moving forward with the project last week and we have some great progress. We should be done with the block work on Monday and by we I really mean a professional crew of construction dudes. This project is way to much for me to tackle on my own. Then on to replace the 10 windows in there with 3 after the holiday weekend. That's all I got for now,James
